Introduction

Red Cross Youth is an important part of the RC/RC International Movement. The role of the youth is recognized and approved within the National Society. Youth leaders and young people in general, through their involvement in GRCS youth activities, are given an opportunity to become RC/RC International Movement volunteers.


Part I


The activities of GRCS Youth aim to actively involve young generation in RC/RC International Movement and GRCS activities as NS governance partners, employees, volunteers and beneficiaries.

GRCS youth enables young people to disseminate information on RC/RC International Movement and act in compliance with movement fundamental principles in the main activity fields of GRCS:

  • promotion of health care and healthy life style;
  • dissemination of information on Red Cross role and RC/RC International movement;
  • Disaster preparedness and response;
  • Raising awareness on international friendship and humanitarian values;

Youth have the leading role in ensuring adherence to movement fundamental principles, providing support to vulnerable people at local level and in the development programmes. They are in an ideal position for identifying needs of youth and other members of Society. Youth is capable of elaborating and implementing programmes. Young people are a purposeful group and along with members and volunteers they are a good asset for the National Society. Being entirely involved in the governance and decision making process youth gain knowledge, experience and necessary skills.

Part II

Currently GRCS youth department is implementing the following activities: project "YOU ARE NOT ALONE"; Red Cross International Youth Camps; Intellectual Competitions in schools; Project "Red Cross Clowns".

"You Are Not Alone"

Project goal is the assistance of the children from the families living beyond the poverty line. For this purpose Georgia Red Cross Youth is implementing a project together with Tbilisi public schools with the slogan: "You Are Not Alone". The project has to accomplish several objectives:

  1. Providing children from families living beyond the poverty line with food parcels, school materials and organize small scale entertainment events for them.
  2. Developing human approach towards vulnerable children; raising awareness about the Red Cross/Red Crescent International Movement Fundamental Principles and Humanitarian Values.
  3. Ensuring volunteer recruitment in Red Cross and their involvement in humanitarian, charity and social activities.


Red Cross International Youth Camps

From December 2007 GRCS youth department implements a project on Red Cross International Youth Camps. The project goals are the following: fundraising for further development of Youth department; Involvement of GRCS volunteers in the camps and providing an incentive for them; Forming close relations with the youth of sister National Societies.

The activities implemented in the project are as follows:

  • Ensuring fun activities and active rest;
  • Presentation of participant RC/RC Societies and sharing experience in youth related RC/RC actions;
  • Numerous sports, cultural and entertainment activities;
  • Planning of a new particular project together with camp participants which would be certainly implemented by GRCS Youth Department


Intellectual Competitions at Schools

GRCS youth department organizes intellectual competitions in Tbilisi Public schools. The project serves the main objectives: charity, information dissemination on GRCS and attracting young volunteers.

There is an attendance fee of the event and the funds raised are spent on a specific event defined in advance by GRCS.

On May 7, 2008 in the framework of the Red Cross week dedicated to Red Cross and Red Crescent World Day GRCS youth department organized an intellectual competition in #122 Tbilisi public school.

The members of the winning team were given high quality literature from publishing houses "Intellect" and "Artanuji", charity fund "Iavnana". GRCS has awarded them with various gifts as well.


Project "Red Cross Clowns" implemented in the framework of GRCS psycho-social rehabilitation project

GRCS Project on "Red Cross Clowns" serves the following objectives: psycho-social rehabilitation of children, building their self-confidence and increasing trust towards other young people; Entertaining vulnerable children and ensuring their full integration into society; through raising awareness of young people in terms of treating vulnerable children.

The new project envisages holding of the entertainment events in orphanages, children hospitals and the collective centers where the IDP children are accommodated.
