| Statement by the Secretary General
Red Cross was born in Solferino aiming to help wounded people in battlefields. Red Cross is an idea organized in a form of the institution; Idea of giving voluntary services to wounded people which later was extended to all people in need despite their race, religion, class or political opinion. The Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, Universality - became universal value contributing to peace and friendship in the world. We, the Red Cross Society of Georgia, are proud to be a part of the Movement.
The Red Cross Society of Georgia is a significant humanitarian actor at all levels in Georgia. It is not only the actor. By constantly improving way we operate and deliver services the Red Cross enlists others - Government, UN organizations, NGOs, the private sector - in the efforts to protect life and health and ensure respect for the human being. Strong and well-developed Red Cross in Georgia is an interest of Georgian society as well as Government taking into the consideration auxiliary role of the NS to the government in humanitarian activities. The Red Cross Society of Georgia can not become stronger and better without Georgian society and support from the government. We all, interested stakeholders, should answer one question: "what we do to make the Red Cross in Georgia stronger and better?" Only then the Red Cross will be able to deliver better services to vulnerable people in Georgia.
Present web-site of the Red Cross Society of Georgia is a tool to disseminate Red Cross/Red Crescent Values and activities of the RCSG. It is a tool to be more transparent and accountable to our members, volunteers, beneficiaries, Georgian society, government, donors and partners.
I hope RCSG web-site will be useful and interesting for our stakeholders and we are committed to making it more informative and useful in future.
