For almost a century the Georgia Red Cross Society has been faithfully serving the people in need living in our country. Events, which developed in Georgia in August 2008, once again revealed that the Georgian Red Cross Society - part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and an organization having an auxiliary role to government of Georgia in the humanitarian field - has an important task before the country and the socially vulnerable people. During the times of hardship, the staff and volunteers of the Georgia Red Cross Society who where mobilized when armed actions started, played an imminent role. Many charity activities are still being implemented thanks to their energy and tireless work.

During my presidency, I have had direct contact with the people affected as a result of the disasters: forcefully displaced families, frightened children; I have seen burnt and crashed houses, destroyed farms and much more. But despite all the misfortunes, the people have never lost faith and hope.

If we take into account the nature of the Georgian people, the aggravated situation and social poverty do not weaken but on the contrary, even more strikingly reveal spiritual courage and quick sightedness of Georgians. Nobody can cure spiritual poverty of a rich man, if charity is not part of his soul, his spiritual state can never be compared with the conditions of the people living in misery.

No humanitarian assistance can bring the same results as those achieved by people's support and understanding of their misfortunes. Kindness and openheartedness are those important elements planted by the Georgian Red Cross Society at its every step.

The goal of our work is not how much we do but how much love we put in it.

Honesty, respect of each other's opinion, justice, personal responsibility, diplomacy and tact - these are the main criteria which guide the work of the Georgian Red Cross Society.

We create a pleasant working environment to everyone who expresses his/her wish to cooperate with us; we appreciate and take into account their opinion. I believe in the future and I hope that the Georgian Red Cross Society will honorably fulfill its mission.
