First Aid

Since August 2005, with the assistance of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the effort of Georgia Red Cross Society the First Aid Program was renewed.

The restoration of the whole program was started. Georgia Red Cross Society has prepared the strategy and the project of the new First Aid Program.

In November 2005 training on basic first aid was conducted for volunteers from the flood region, "Social Support to lone elderly" project social workers and volunteers.

In November 2005 and December 2006 GRCS held training on First Aid for 63 UN staff, flood affected community members and GRCS volunteers.

The chapter on first aid was included in the published booklet dedicated to the Flood;

Through 14-25 May, 2007 within the memorandum of cooperation signed between GRCS and Magen David Adom in Israel, Israeli coordinators held the seminar "Readiness for Delivering the First Aid Assistance" for the GRCS staff and volunteers. Later on, Magen David Adom paramedics/instructors held an update training for 32 GRCS First Aid trainers.

With the financial support of "Magen David Adom" in Israel the basement office space was repaired at GRCS HQ in order to hold FA trainings for GRCS volunteers.

After the events that developed in Georgia in August 2008 GRCS GA presidium considered First Aid program implementation and development as one of priority spheres of the National Society.

From September 2008 with the support of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and International Committee of Red Cross the revision and expansion of GRCS FA project was started. By the end of the year FA network will be introduced covering GRCS five branches. FA instructors and specially trained volunteers will disseminate information on First Aid among local community members and IDPs. The working plan was elaborated. The training of trainers was already conducted and setting up of FA teams was started. At the same time preparatory works are implemented for writing a first aid manual.
